Alpacas originate from South America, and live in the Andes.

There fleece is used for clothes and can be expensive
They prefer being in the companyof someone rather than being alone
Alpacas were domesticated by the Incas more than 6,000 years ago and raised for their exquisite fleece.
There are 2 types of alpacas, Suri and the huacaya.
Alpacas and llamas can successfully cross-breed. The offspring they create are known as huarizo, which are valued for their longer fleece.
Here are some basic facts about alpaca's
- Alpacas use a communal dung pile (where they do not graze). .
- Alpacas have a life span of 20-25 years or more
- They have single births (twins are extremely rare occurring once in about every 2000 births).
- A baby alpaca is called a cria, usually weighs between 6-8kg at birth
